A limited-edition novella of the evolution of an artificial intelligence by award-winning author Ted Chiang.
Published by Subterranean Press in July of 2010, The Lifecycle of Software Objects explores the creation and lives of digital beings and their interactions with human trainers and society. The project included interior design, cover layout for a limited and trade edition, and map-like collage illustrations. New Zealand artist Christian Pierce provided the cover illustration and ten interior illustrations.
The trade edition has a traditional full-color dust jacket, while the limited has no dust jacket and is stamped in two colors on the front, spine, and back. The interior of both books is printed in black and red inks.
