Celebrated science fiction author Ted Chiang and Subterranean Press commissioned Jacob McMurray to design a deluxe version of his lauded novella, the inspiration for the 2016 Denis Villeneuve film Arrival.  McMurray suggested Henry McCausland for the illustrations, based on the strength of his 2020 graphic novel, Eight Lane Runaways.  The interior pages were printed letterpress, while the illustrations were offset and tipped in. The volume is housed in a custom slipcase, designed by Geralyn Lance.
